Work On Public Holiday. Employees who are entitled to paid leave on a public holiday will continue to accrue leave at the normal rate, regardless if they work or not during a public holiday. If you work normal working hours on a public holiday, you will receive 2 days wages at your usual rate.
You will be entitled to this pay even if you had skipped work on the working day before or after the public holiday, without your boss’s approval. When a person works on a public holiday they are entitled to be paid for the day in accordance with their agreed rates. Working on public holidays is regulated in terms of the basic conditions of employment act.
